Peak District 2008

A week in the Peaks staying in Ashford on the Water, a small village in Derbyshire.

Thorpe Cottage was our base for a lovely stay in Ashford, near the River Wye, not far from Bakewell.

From here we walked and cycled many a mile of disused Derbyshire railway tracks, and visited various places such as Matlock, Bakewell and Chesterfield. The weather was glorious most days though you wouldn’t guess it from the photos!

We got to explore some dark satanic mills too, with Arkwiright’s Cromford Mill being one of the places where the industrial revolution started to really get into gear (clever guy that Arkwright).

Monsal Head was our favourite spot, not only a stunning view over the surrounding area, but a pub with a great range of cask ales to drive away the thirst before heading home after a hard days wandering.
