An enlarged crew was back on North Sea ferries for our second assault on Europe, this time Brussels was the victim.
During the afternoon we split off into smaller groups, doing a bit of exploration on our own before returning to our rather posh hotel to get ready for the evening. We had all agreed to meet at a certain place, but in true crew style the planning went out the window. The core element of us found what we thought was the meeting place, but after a couple of drinks no-one else had showed up. Beryl, Eddie and their two friends went somewhere else, Bill and Mandy somehow ended up on their own, resulting in a big falling out, as they blamed Beryl for not telling them where the rest of us were.
The young crew however, stumbled into Conway’s Bar. They sold beer by the flagon at a surprisingly cheap price for a capital city bar, and needless to say we made the most of it! They also sold steaks which were brought to the table still cooking, so we had no plans to be going anywhere else that evening.
Later into the evening, Paul asked the barman if he had an Jack Daniels. “No,” he replied, “but I’ve got some Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra?”
Be the time we got back to our hotel, we were surprised (and very unaccustomed) to encounter a doorman in top hat and tails. As he opened the door for us, Jenny (Burnett) decided to lift up her top in front of him shouting “Woohoo!”. I don’t know whether he got any pleasure out of the view but he did very well not to show any reaction!
